What’s an Affirmation...And Do They Even Work?



In the Mystical Moon Journal, we invite you to create your own affirmations with each new moon cycle. Why? Because affirmations can be a powerful tool to help you change your mood, break old patterns, and manifest the changes you desire in your life.


What is an affirmation?

Affirmations are simple, positive statements repeated to oneself as encouragement, reminders, and declarations of personal power. An affirmation declares and claims the positive changes you seek to create in your life.


Do affirmations work?

When repeated on a regular basis, affirmations can actually rewire our brain, replacing negative and self-sabotaging thought patterns with positive, empowering confirmations that support growth and transformation. Over time, affirmations change our thinking patterns from “I can’t” to “I am.”


Affirmations:

  • Help you feel more positive, energized, and motivated.

  • Influence subconscious thought patterns

  • change the way you think and behave

  • Align your energetic vibration with your intentions - bringing manifestations to life


How to create your own affirmations

Affirmations often begin with an “I am” statement. They are always positive, and most effective when spoken or written in the present tense.


Here are some examples:

  • I am lovable

  • I am powerful

  • I am love

  • I am in charge of my feelings


Affirmations that remind us to practice new thought and behavior patterns might look like this:

  • I choose to be happy today.

  • I breathe calmness today

  • Peace flows through me at all times in all ways.

  • I have the strength and confidence within me that I need to succeed.


Making affirmations stick

  • Write your affirmation down. Use the space in your Mystical Moon Journal. Put your affirmations on post-its and place them in your car, on your mirrors, on your computer screen.

  • Meditating on your affirmation ( even 5 minutes of meditation ) is very powerful.

  • Say it over and over like a mantra

  • Set a reminder on your phone with your affirmation.

  • Look at your affirmation, and repeat it (both aloud and in your mind) as often as you like.

  • You may find that, even if you don’t believe your affirmation at first, the more you repeat it, the more it comes to be true.


Remember - positive thoughts are always stronger than negative thoughts - even if it doesn’t feel that way!

When using affirmation cards or chips, try closing your eyes and asking your higher self and or angels/guides/the divine to assist you in choosing a message for the day. Then choose one or two, or really, however many you like. Use your intuition and let it guide you. We think you will find the message is just what you need.


Even if you don’t fully believe the affirmation at first, keep saying it and see what evolves for you. You can even jot down your journey in your Mystical Moon Journal.


Choose to Affirm! Love yourself! You deserve nothing less than that!
